Psion Guild Chapter Houses

The Psion Guild intends to become a fully functional and operational "real world" organization. To accomplish this end, the Guild is organized into chapter houses. All chapter houses are organized under the the "Main House."

In addition the Main House there will be Territorial Chapter Houses. These are houses founded, one per country, to deal with individuals in those countries on a more personal basis. Because the Main House is an English language-speaking organization, Territorial Chapter Houses can serve as translators (both ways) to make sure that information passes back and forth between the Main House and non-English-speaking members smoothly. They also serve as bases to deal with local issues, provide local teachers (as some individuals have difficulty working psi over vast distances), and simply to provide a tangible presence in those countries.

To form a Territorial Chapter House, a member need merely be willing to take on the large responsiblity and work that it entails, and hold to the Guild Code of Conduct. You must also have reliable internet access, as you will need to create a website to represent your country's Chapter House on the web. If you are not from an English-speaking country, it is necessary that you be bilingual, or have someone willing to work in your House who speaks and writes English. Translation programs would probably make a complete hash of many of the terms likely to be passed back in forth within documents. Several individuals have taken on the task of translating the Guild's documents into other languages. It is expected that this may take quite some time to do, and it is also acceptable for Territorial Chapter Houses to maintain their own documents in other languages, if they so wish. These should be available for translation, but the House is not required to translate the documents if they don't have the time or resources to do so. The main House may ask them for a basic overview on the contents, however.

Underneath Territorial Chapter Houses, Regional Chapter Houses may be formed. A Regional Chapter House serves to provide a physical presence for the Guild in a limited area. To form a Regional Chapter House, It is recommended that you have 5 persons willing to participate in it, and of course all must hold to the Guild Code of Conduct. The largest area a Regional Chapter House should represent is a state, province, or similar sub-section of a country. If two groups wish to form Regional Chapter houses within a state, province, etc., then they will split that area between them.

Unlike Territorial Chapter Houses, Regional Chapter Houses do not necesssarily have to have reliable internet access. They must, however, remain in contact with their Territorial Chapter House, or, that failing, the Main House. It is recommended that the Territorial Chapter House maintain a simple, single-page presence online for Regional Chapter Houses which are unable to maintain their own Web presence.

The benefit of a Regional Chapter House is that it allows in-person interactions for members, and the potential for face-to-face training of students, research, and other Guild functions. For this reason, a minimum number of persons who will be meeting offline must be maintained to run a Regional Chapter House, but is not required for a Territorial Chapter House.

A Territorial Chapter House may have a dual function as a Regional Chapter House. It is not required that your country have an established Territorial Chapter House in order for you to start a Regional Chapter House--your House will simply answer to the Main House rather than to a Territorial Chapter House.

Regional Chapter Houses should be expected to send in annual reports of their activities to the appropriate Territorial Chapter House. These reports should list the number of meetings, numbers attending, and some basic information on what was done during the meetings. There is no requirement for what you should do during a chapter house meeting--you may practice together, or engage in other psi-related activities, or you could simply talk, go out to lunch, or engage in some other activity as a group. We do expect that the subject of psi will come up during your chapter house meetings at some point, and you may not use uninterested non-active people to fulfil the requirements for starting and maintaining a Regional Chapter House.

Regional Chapter Houses may be created and maintained by youths, for youths. For safety and security purposes, all members of these youth groups must be under the age of 18. Contact with potential new members should be arranged with extreme caution, and accompaniment by an adult and meeting in a public place is recommended for first-time contacts with anyone a youth will be meeting offline. A youth member should never give out their legal name or traceable contact information to any person they have not yet met face to face. In general, Regional Chapter Houses should consist only of adults or of youths--this is for the safety and legal protection of everyone involved. The exception to this rule will be when a parent or guardian who is attending allows their children to attend and participate in Regional Chapter House meetings.

Please note that Regional Chapter Houses are created and run by individuals in their local area--the Main House cannot be responsible for events which take place at Regional Chapter House meetings, and has no means of tracking their activities, apart from the reports made by the head of the House. Please use your best judgement when dealing with individuals locally. If you have a problem with events that occur at any Regional Chapter House, you may report them to the Main House, but we will not be able to provide any compensation for such problems.
