u get it when people think that you have posted good and rep u. or if u have posted bad vice versa. it si also jsut a sign that you are a good/bad poster =]

It normally takes a lot of rep to make a difference either way. Not worth it unless you know you will get some in return, as such power of reputation is meaningless.

Kind of like having a high post count.

yeah pretty much. its nice to have but completely pointless.... =]

I personally see it as a way to give credit to a person who helped out or generally is a good poster, it's nice logging in and seeing that someone left a little comment on how glad they were you helped them out.
