I've read a few things about imbuing something with a "brain", an energy system, longevity, and etc... but haven't seen to much regarding on what to remember when doing these things. Or anything like a step by step process of creation.

What have you guys found through trial and error that makes for a construct that functions exactly how you planned it?

You have to have a very good complete idea of what you want it to be like when finished...a multi-dimensional 'single object' idea, rather than a series of thoughts. Even if you don't program it all at once, you have to be able to hold it in its entirety in your mind.

Depends on the person and their skill.
If you are absent minded, can hold a thought worth a damn, but can control energy enough to have the sucker wait til you say "that is all no go off and do what ever it was I told you to do, because now I forgot, please" then you're fine.

Over actively concentrating also has it's downfalls.... unless you like obsessive compulsive energy.

The G - construction Method
Perform a psionic power up Relax and clear your mind. Imagine a golden ball of energy a few feet from your crown charka. It’s spinning and fizzing .you can feel the electromagnetic energy emanating from it program this ball to produce unlimited and endless amounts of psionic electricity by converting the air at the top of the room into volts of electricity. Next create a construct with this energy and visualize to increase the potency of the construct by having the volts of psi coming into your head and down into the construct and mixing with energy from the nervous system then directing that energy in the construct.
Now decide what you want to create, ask yourself will it be stationary or mobile? What will it do? It has intelligence ?how smart will it be now project energy into an area between your hands or if the construct is larger some in the room .while you do this decide how long you want the construct to last, concentrate on that while you gather more energy once you have a concentration of energy in one area shape it. Simply project energy at it , while contracting on the shape you want it be. If the construct is intended to last a while create a internal structure that will circulate energy through the construct to allow for maintain and repairs. next it’s time to program in the construct’s behavior programming ,again project energy into the construct , while concentrating on all the things you want it to do . Then program this construct to constantly condense itself ,so it doesn't dissipate. Add a self destruction protocol. Then project energy into the construct while concentrating on the abilities you want it have , and how to use each of them. Now you’ll program the sensations you want the construct to have Next, recall the physical feeling while projecting energy into the construct. Now you need to shell this construct make sure the construct isn’t touching your hands .let's feel around the construct and carefully smooth it out to a globe. Keep smothering the surface and visualize the core of the ball pressing out towards the shell, try to feel the psi creeping too, it's good to combine two ways of visualization. When you feel that most of the construct consists of it's outer field, you are well on your way. Program the construct. this only requires basic programming of two things, the main command, in this case "hold together" and the secondary command, in this case the duration to which the construct will hold together, here presented in perceived time. Visualize the construct pulsating, make it into an animation in your head and when a satisfactory pulsating movement has been reached, you freeze the image. For some reason, this frozen image feels unbreakable. It was fragile a second ago, but now it is a part of reality and therefore follows to the rules. And if you know your physics right, you know just what the laws of matter are. a set timer should do it, like 16:30, or a clock with a curve showing the duration of the construct. Apply this while visualizing the timer within the construct, sinking into it and sticking. To turn these shells into a small Shields, program it as you would for any other Shields; with effect, duration, shape, etc.

the g method logically speaking would create rogue constructs more often than WW's method. Besides, visualization doesn't do anything unique.

WW's method is the same one i use, and i don't have problems with rogues.
