View Full Version : Moving IRC channel to another Server?

Recently several incidents have occurred where people have felt they were treated unfairly by the owner of psionics.net. These incidents generally involved excessive consequences for minor infractions, or infractions in at least one case that they were not directly involved in. (Maverick's server ban due to his accidently joining a channel with a profanity in the title for 8 seconds, then confusion over whether or not he was banned, leading to another ban for ban-evasion).
Bynw, the server owner, has stated he likes our group and would like us to stay.
Would folks prefer we move the chat to another server?

HELL YES.....
Hm... I haven't been in the chat for a very long time, but if Bynw reacts to things all the time as he reacted to this incident, it might be a good idea to change servers to one with a host who doesn't jump to punishment so fast. I mean, he doesn't HAVE to talk things out with us, because he can really do whatever he wants when we're on his server, but it'd be nice if he did talk things through.
I'm going to say I'm leaning more towards yes.

Essentially after the room thing I left immediately and Bynw killed me. FS even pasted it back when I rejoined. Which means he set the kline after I was killed so I would not know. I tried and reconnected on a new name after getting a message once, but the same IP. This is also logged. How is it ban evasion if I'm on the same IP? How is what Bynw did ethical either? He banned me for something I did not do, rebanned me for ban evasion when I thought he had removed the original kline. He also contacted my ISP over this crap, and got my service terminated. Fortunately I got them to reinstate it this time. He went waay too far with this garbage.

I have several years experience on this server, and have found the management in general VERY responsive and helpful. Occasionally folks have been banned by accident. I know of one occasion where everone was kicked from the server, and another where everyone was banned. In both cases they were accidents, when the IRCOp in question was attempting to get rid of a SPAM Bot.
BENEFITThe size of the server is also a benefit. Knowingl, and being able to go directly to management is a bonus.
Finally - may old time chatters who drop in occasionally - expect to find it where it is.

it just so happens that when i want to talk about things relating to psionics, i also want to be in a place of some orientation towards the information i want to discuss. basicly, i dont want to have to go to a random crap server when i want to talk about one of the most important things going on for me right now, id much rather let the random crap come to the server meant to contain the important stuff.

Actually the entire server is an RPG server, the psionics name is meant towards that not actual psionics. If you paid attention you would of seen that.

Well, yes I feel by any means that if the admin acts out this way he deserves to lose his few visitors.

He contacted your ISP because you broke your ISP's ToS with the name you put in your hostmask.
btw WW.. i voted yes on the poll.. i want to change it to no...

You mention "several incidents." What else has happened besides Maverick's situation?
I've never had any problems with the Psionics.net staff, never even heard of problems until now. I would prefer to have ALL the facts before up and moving from a server that, in my experience, has always been friendly.

Well.. two people got K:lined but the K:Lined ended after only an hour or two. Solet got a K:line which i think is permanent.

And what did those people allegedly do? Just because they were harshly punished doesn't mean they didn't deserve it. This is what I mean about having all the facts.

G2 I looked at my ISP's TOS, and I didnt break anything. He in fact broke his ISP's TOS. So until you have the facts, SHUT THE FUCK UP.

For myself, I believe this incident went a bit too far. A misunderstood banning incident is one thing, calling an ISP is another. I have seen several other incidents over the last year that I found disturbing on this server. I will miss some of you very much, but I will be leaving. I will not "walk on eggshells" wondering if a mistake I make because I'm overtired or not paying enough attention is going to land me in Mavericks situation.
Take Care, keep practicing and sharing information.

I'll change my vote from a no to yes, if you find another quiet little server.

I think we should make sure that the person/people in charge of this server are aware of these complaints and are given a chance to improve themselves first.
If this has already been attempted and failed, or if they fail to comply when this is attempted, then we should move.
Basically I say to give them one more chance before they lose us.

Yes, he is aware of the concerns.

I would like to say that the situation has been amicably resolved; last night Bynw finally admitted his mistake and appologised (sp?). Intrepid: There is really no need to leave. We have taken care of the situation.
FS: yes this situation was solved BUT it was like pulling teeth!
Bynw was stuborn and self-important, and extremely reluctant to admit his mistake. I think that if this incident had resolved itself without Bynw recieving hell I would've voted "no" however Bynw's inflexability leads me to a "yes" yote.

Well, it does mean something that Bynw WANTS us to stay.

I voted no, simply because this is a great server and that we havn't had THAT many problems with it. Why fix something that isn't broken? Besides, the psionics server is much better than any other server I can think of. Mistakes are mistakes, people shouldn't read too much from them. Besides, BynW wants us to stay, how can you argue with that?
