Hypnosis and Training
I don't know if this is the right place to post this question but can self hypnosis speed up training? Because from what I read, the subconscious is nothing but a computer that basically executes what it is told to do.. So my theory is to tell the subconscious that you already know how to do what you are trying to learn...and also that you learn at an accelerated pace, and this should help you with training...the reason i am saying this is because it is sort of like a suggestion being placed on you when someone tells you that "it will take years of practicing/training to get to the level of doing x..." it just seems like because they are more experienced means that you accept those words more and tend to go along with it...but what if you honestly believe and KNOW in your heart that you can do it in a shorter amount of time?? Obviously you still have to work at what your goal is, but just believing and knowing that you're progressing extremely fast towards your goal should prove you right...i dont know if it sounded right coming out, but i want to hear other opinions...

Self hypnosis... is called deep meditation...... and I believe it will help.... focus in the mind, can never be called a bad thing

Like most techniques that rely on faith, this works for some people very well...and not all for others. Most fall somewhere in between, but results are not USUALLY tremendously impressive. Meditation is healthy, but it's not a substitute for actual training and work.

I never said that meditation is a substitute for training and practice... but I do believe that it is a useful tool... a person with an untrained mind, cannot possibly control their abilities to the same extent that a person with a trained mind can.

Meditation, however, only trains the mind in one specific way, and several other ways would be needed to use psi most effectively. I highly recommend something called 'focal meditation', which is a simple focus-training exercise.

Tsk... Tsk... Tsk... I never specified a specific form of Meditation.... but please do explain this Focal Meditation, it sounds familiar... but I cannot quite place it.

Winged_Wolf:

Well, honestly I had only recently heard it called that. It's not actually meditation at all. It involves training the mind to focus on one thing for a long period of time, without wavering. The method I learned was called candle-gazing, and I believe posted directions on it somewhere in the beginning energy working part of the forum....
Because it's external focusing, I don't honestly think it deserves to be called meditation.
There are other beneficial types of mental training which make a person more efficient and effective with psi, and are also not meditation.
If a person had to learn one mental skill alone to aid in psi development (apart from abilities training) the ability to focus would be the one I would most recommend, long before I recommended actual meditation.

Yes, I've heard of it before.... Used it infact.... it is Meditation in that it achieves an altered mental state.... in my opinion that is (that it is meditation, not that it achieves an altered mental state, which is will do if done properly)

Winged_Wolf:

Meditation is generally defined as a contemplation of something. "Focal meditation" involves no contemplation, simply a disciplined focus. That's why I don't think it really deserves the term. Many things involve an altered mental state which are not meditation.

I've never used meditation to focus on something... or at least rarely... most of my meditations are to clear my mind and keep it cleared....as a precursor to 'Working'.... basically to enter into an altered state of mind where it is easier to sense, and to do.....
