One of the primary goals of the Psion guild is to educate, both psions and the general public, as to the nature and functioning of psionics.
To further this goal the education department was founded.
To aid in this goal the department educates psions about psionics, in all respects. This includes, but is certainly not limited to; theory, history, culture, and functions of abilities.
The department is concerned with training and development of psionic abilities. While to the guild, psionics may well be fact, it is not a set facet of reality to those that have not personally experienced such phenomena.
Most psionic abilities are minor; and often as much, if not more, of an annoyance then a useful tool.
Training of these abilities allows the psions to control this influence in their lives. Uncontrolled abilities are usually not pleasant to have as part of one's self. In some cases they can create a danger to the psion, and occasionally to property or beings around the psion.
Training also allows the psions to actively use these abilities in a constructive manner, to improve their lives, and possibly other's lives.
Developing these abilities allows for many things, not least among such is evidence that is currently lacking for most of the general public.
Developing also allows for removing the "blatancy barrier". Most abilities, when in action, seem to the casual observer as odd coincidence.
Often people that spend a sufficient amount of time near a psion will note the odd happenings that seem to occur while these people are about. Seldom do those people understand or attempt to explain the odd events. More often then not they blame it on a mystic vague notion of luck, karma, weirdness magnet, or some similar idea.
The "blatancy barrier" is the point at which, even the casual observer, will no longer consider it to simply be an odd coincidence.
One homo-sexual psion compared being a psion to being gay in modern society. Most psions hide these abilities, and therefore are "in the closet". Psions should have the right to be "out of the closet", if they so choose.
Lacking abilities that can consistently cross the blatancy barrier, does not allow for proof. Abilities that can consistently cross the blatancy barrier will provide proof. Then, those psions that so choose, can "come out of the psi closet", without most of the general public thinking them insane.
This will, of course, create new problems. However, each barrier must be crossed individually.
Development serves the purpose of increasing the functional usefulness of psionic abilities.
In increasing the abilities enough, it allows for the possibility of psions using these abilities for employment purposes.
While it might be possible to use tele-kinesis to move a coffee pot, with proper development one could move a piano. Tele-kineticly moving a piano would be a very useful skill. It might will be less harmful to the piano as well. It would require less man power, and at lower risk of injury to the person moving it.
That is merely one of a great many examples of how psions could be employed. Without the faculty to develop the abilities further then their current known limitations, such employment will not occur.
When training and development are properly used; an otherwise annoying or possibly dangerous trait, that often causes mental discomfort, has little to no reins controlling it, that seem to serve no purpose- suddenly becomes a useful productive trait, that has the ease of control like that of a limb, and has the capacity to improve lives.
Overall the education department is the outer nucleus of the guild, that interacts with the other departments together in the common goal of improving psionics.
To works towards the goal of allowing psionics to a be useful skill for employment, the advancement department was founded. The education department works closely with the research department to achieve these goals.
Both the advancement and research departments could easily stand alone in their functions. However the education department needs both of them to increase its' effectiveness.
Without advancement, there is no scale to judge the usefulness of the training used by the education department.
Without research there is no means of gaining better understanding of these abilities and how they function to improve training.
To maintain a healthy membership of the guild, the education department also works closely with the member services department. Membership services, which includes networking, support, and defense; allows the psions of the guild the necessary requirements of any human to live a full and productive life.
Networking allows for connections with others psions, which is social requirement of any human to find "their own kind".
Support helps contend with the mental and physical stress, common to any human, and particular to psions.
Defense allows for needed assistance in psychic disturbances and disputes, which are far too common.
Without these functions there will be far less healthy psions to train.
Obviously, the membership department has important goals, that do not rely on education.
The education department works closely with public relations for the purpose of educating the general public as to the true nature of these abilities.
While training of may lead to a world that requires greater understand of psionics from the general public; that understanding does not require training and teaching of psions.
Public relations handles the requirement of informing the general public as to the nature of psionics. These will eventually lead to a world where psions can choose to be out of the closet, without as much misunderstand and antagonistic feelings that would otherwise occur.
Oddly enough the education department works least with the inner nucleus of the guild, the administration department. While, like any department, it requires an administration department to assistance in all things it does; the direct interaction is lesser then as with the previously mentioned departments.
Without the administration departments, there would be no students to teach.
Administration is required for any organization, without the need of teaching or training.
